CGS Sementi SpA is a service company whose main aim is to evaluate, develop and market the best varieties of cereals and forage crops released by Italian and foreign breeders in order to make them available to farmers.
Moreover, the Company breeds its own fodder crop varieties.
With regard to cereals CGS Sementi is not directly involved in breeding programmes, but offers its partnership - screening of varieties/lines, conservative selection, marketing - to public and private breeders who want to evaluate and offer their varieties in the seed supply chain in Italy and in the Mediterranean Basin.
The strategy of CGS is illustrated by its comprehensive catalogue of cereals and fodder crops.
CGS is able to achieve this ambitious goals thanks to :
- skilled, highly qualified and experienced staff with specialised knowledge of the Italian seed world;
- inspection of the Italian territory by many active agent/promoters with proven experience;
- two seed production stations (in Acquasparta TR and Todi PG) able to guarantee the efficiency of all the seed production phases, from selection to certification, up to the marketing of certified seeds;
- a pool of agricultural farms ensuring the supply of high quality seeds every year;
- experimental and demonstration trials led by a professional team who possess a wealth of experience and skills. Trials are carried out thanks also to the cooperation with qualified institutions working in this sector;
- co-operation with Italian scientific institutions (as universities, ministry institutes, …).

CGS is placed in Acquasparta (TR), in the center of Umbria region (Central Italy).
Two cleaning stations for cereals and forages are present here; CGS manage, besides, another cleaning station in Todi (about 20 km far from the head quarter).
A research & development office is placed in Urbisaglia (MC) in Marche region (Adriatic sea region). |
